Artful Parenthood:

Create a Photography Practice for Self-Expression,

Connection, and Memory-Making

A two-week intensive workshop that will help you go from feeling like you lack the time, skills, and creativity to artfully document your family to feeling confident and inspired as you become your family’s storyteller.

Course runs from January 15-January 28, 2024.

Not sure if you're good fit? Already feeling stretched thin?

I feel you! As parents, our lives are filled with multi-tasking, context-switching, and a general sense of time scarcity. It's so hard to work against that default way of operating. Sometimes it feels like a luxury to pause and ask yourself "What is most important to me? How can I find more beauty in my everyday? How can I move through today/this week/this month with more intention?" The purpose of this class is to show you a path and get you some tangible skills in creating a photography practice that fulfills you.

This course is for you if...

You have a busy, beautiful life that feels like it's happening too fast and you yearn to capture more of it,

You have a tangled mess of iPhone snapshots but no real direction in what and how you photograph your life,

You're drawn to photography and want to learn the basics to better your skill set,

You're curious about what it would look like to start a creative project of regular photo documentation,

You want to do something for yourself that isn't tied to your other obligations, something that is just yours.

"Allison has helped me channel my artistic curiosities in such a safe and supported way! She's generous with her knowledge and always meets me where I am with her warm, open approach to teaching and coaching. I feel recharged and excited for an outlet into the creative parts of myself that so often get shelved by competing priorities in life."

By the end of this two-week course, you will...

Have a clear idea of the things you most want documented and a plan for how to document them,

Have a foundational understanding of how to create beautiful, meaningful imagery,

Understand how light impacts the way a photo will look and have experiential knowledge of how to notice good light,

Have a system for organizing your photos (on your phone and/or computer) that never lets a photo get lost to the abyss,

Understand the basics of photo editing and have experiential knowledge in the level of editing that works for you,

Commit to a photography project for the coming weeks, months, or year that will put into action all that you learn in the course.

Artful Parenthood runs from January 15-January 28, 2024.

You may be wondering...
  • How much time should we plan to commit to the course?
The amount of time you commit can be scaled by your level of interest, but I'm aiming to have you spend about an hour each day of the 14-day course run.
  • When does the class happen?
Online course access begins on Monday, January 15, 2024 with new lessons made available each day. The final Q&A will happen on Sunday, January 28, 2024.
  • Do I have to attend the course in real time?
Nope. The class is designed to allow you to work at your own pace. The advantage to attending in real time is the relevance of the weekly live group Q&A sessions, but those will be recorded and can be watched at a later time.
  • What if I don't have a nice camera?
You don't need anything fancy - any kind of camera will work! I will encourage folks to shoot with an actual camera (compact point and shoot, DSLR, mirrorless, film), but phone cameras will work as well.
  • Does the course get super technical or require that I shoot in manual?
Not at all! My focus is to give you a comfortable understanding of the elements that make a good photo. For folks who want a deeper and more technical class, I plan to develop a longer course (stay tuned!) that will cover everything you need to know to be able to shoot in manual.
  • What kind of instructor support is in this course?
Each lesson will have a space for people to comment and ask questions and I will respond to those during our weekly live Q&A sessions.
  • Can I have a private Q&A or coaching session with you?
I will be offering a limited number of upgrade spots for individuals who know they'll want more support. You can select the upgrade at checkout.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! Everyone who registers has the option to pay-in-full or pay in two equal payments (30 days apart).
